An overview of the CBSE board:

CBSE (The Central Board of Secondary Education) is one of the national level boards of education in India. CBSE control and regulate many public and private schools operated as per the Union Government of India. NCERT in conjunction with CBSE has asked all the schools to be affiliated and must follow only the NCERT curriculum. So, NCERT is the standardized academic regulatory body providing books, NCERT questions and solutions, curriculum and model papers and many more. As per 2019 statistics, there are 21,499 schools affiliated to the CBSE board. The official website for CBSE board is Website www.cbse.nic.in. CBSE was the first education board set up by Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1921. Later it was confined to Ajmer, Bhopal and Vindhya Pradesh. In 1952, it became the "Central Board of Secondary Education" that took responsibility to control all the CBSE schools across the nation. CBSE affiliates most of the schools approved by the central government of India, all Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and the majority of the private schools in India.

 

The main objectives of CBSE are

  1. To define appropriate approaches of academic activities to provide stress-free, child-centred and holistic education to all children without compromising on quality.

  2. To analyze and monitor the quality of academic activities by collecting feedback from different stakeholders.

  3. To develop norms for implementation of various academic activities including quality issues; to control and coordinate the implementation of various academic and training programs of the Board; to organize academic activities and to supervise other agencies involved in the process.

  4. To adapt and innovate methods to achieve academic excellence in conformity with psychological, pedagogical and social principles.

  5. To encourage schools to document the progress of students in a teacher and student-friendly way.

  6. To propose plans to achieve quality benchmarks in school education consistent with the National goals.

  7. To organize various capacity building and empowerment programs to update the professional competency of teachers.

  8. To prescribe conditions of examinations and conduct public examination at the end of Class X and XII. To grant qualifying certificates to successful candidates of the affiliated schools.

  9. To fulfil the educational requirements of those students whose parents were employed in transferable jobs.

  10. To prescribe and update the course of instructions of examinations

  11. To affiliate institutions for the purpose of examination and raise the academic standards of the country.

 

The prime focus of the Board is

  1. Innovations in teaching-learning methodologies by devising students friendly and students centred paradigms.

  2. Reforms in examinations and evaluation practices.

  3. Skill learning by adding job-oriented and job-linked inputs.

  4. Regularly updating the pedagogical skills of the teachers and administrators by conducting in-service training programs, workshops, etc.

 

An overview of the CBSE Syllabus:

CBSE Syllabus defines the totality of all the topics, their weightage, subtopics, marking scheme and evaluation criteria as well as the governing regulations for academics. CBSE is one of the most expansive and comprehensive curricula that regulates all CBSE students from class 1-class 12. CBSE Curriculum/Syllabus for Classes – 5 to 12

CBSE curriculum operates based on the National Curriculum Framework 2005 along with NCERT standards that are defined each year. The curriculum below is the description of units, lessons, topics, sub-topics, with their detailed hourly distribution, suggested practicum, examination scheme and the teaching methodology (pedagogy) required to follow.
